CAIRO: An argument over a parking spot in downtown Cairo escalated into a street brawl Monday in which a gun was fired in a rare shooting in the Egyptian capital.
The melee between workers at rival auto parts stores left car and shop windows smashed and six people injured, including one who was shot and in critical condition, police said. Police arrested seven people and were searching for other suspects who fled.
The city of 18 million people has very little gun crime and it is unusual for civilians to carry guns.
Monday’s fight began when the son of an auto parts shop owner parked in front of a competing store after being warned not to.
That irked employees of Abu El-Dahab Auto Parts who then gathered at the other auto parts shop, where a verbal argument escalated to blows and then a gun being fired.
