Egypt, which is seeking more private investment in social services and infrastructure, has re-opened a bid for a wastewater treatment plant as part of its public-private partnership program.
The announcement for prequalifiers for a 20-year contract for the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the plant in Abu Rawash, south of Cairo, was published in the state-run Al-Ahram newspaper on Tuesday.
Trade Minister Rachid Mohamed Rachid has said Egypt was "aggressively seeking" private partners and is eyeing up to LE 50 billion in infrastructure projects in the next 18 months.
The tender for the Abu Rawash plant, which has capacity of 1.2 million cubic meters per day, had previously been announced in December.
Officials could not immediately reached for comment on why the bidding process was relaunched. The new deadline is November 21.
Orascom Construction Industries, Egypt’s biggest listed builder, won a contract in a 50-50 joint venture with Spain’s Aqualia, the water division of Spain’s FCC in May 2009, in the country’s first public-private partnership concession.
