CAIRO: Mostafa Younes has resigned as the manager of Egypt’s youth team after his request for a media side-job was rejected by the FA.
The Egyptian FA prohibits national team managers from working as TV presenters or analysts, while Younes is contracted to Modern Sport TV.
The former Ahly defender was hoping to get an exception for his case, but the Egyptian football governing body insisted on its stance in a Thursday meeting.
“Since the very beginning, I made it clear that I prefer my job in the media than coaching the youth team,” Younes said.
“I will, however, remain in the field of managing clubs.”
Younes led Egypt to the 2011 African Youth Championship, following a 3-0 (3-1 aggregate) victory over Senegal last month.
The FA has yet to shortlist possible candidates for the job as Younes’ assistant Hisham Yakan remains a contender.
