CAIRO: Pope Shenouda III decided on Monday to move his 39th Holy See anniversary celebration for the first time from the Cathedral’s headquarters in Abbaseya to Bishop Bishouy Monastery in Wadi Natrun.

The decision came after Al-Qaeda group, claiming responsibility for a bloody hostage taking in a Baghdad church last week, threatened to target the region’s Christians if the Coptic Church did not release two women rumored to have converted to Islam.

Sources in the papal office told Daily News Egypt that the church is now getting ready for the celebration in coordination with priests of Bishop Bishouy Monastery.

The sources declined to explain the reasons behind the decision to move the celebration and whether or not it has any connection with Al-Qaeda threats.
