Nuniz, the home grown leather handbag brand by Nadia Zarkani recently relocated showroom premises to a wider space, located under the Maadi former-workshop-cum-showroom, a step for the brand that the designer explained was a long time in the making.

With her bags in such high demand, and her recent participation in the fashion fundraising event Luxury for a Cause II, it was a surprise to find that she also recently had the time to collaborate with Eklego Design, a local design and architecture firm that has delivered several cool interior spots including La Bodega’s Aperitivo restaurant and Sodic’s Sale Center in Sixth of October.

So how can one translate Nuniz’s handbag concepts to furniture? Easy enough it seems: those popular and Nuniz trademark braided handles that grip her bag design are transformed to decorative handles with function on large cubic poufs.

Nuniz’s supple leather in single tones of bright orange, black or browns and leather weave detailing are set against linen and dark wood to make pillows, couches and multipurpose units that can serve as either chairs or even possibly, coffee tables. Yet, the smooth lines and use of wood and linen so typical of Eklego has been fluidly partnered with Nuniz’s themes, creating unique on-off pieces that would be so easy to integrate into one’s home.

The pieces are available for viewing and purchase at Eklego’s showroom in Zamalek.

Nuniz: 18 Rd.9, Ground floor, Maadi, Cairo. Call 0122105860
