CAIRO: Political dissident and founder of Al-Ghad Party Ayman Nour said his party doesn’t acknowledge the results of Sunday’s parliamentary elections.
Nour had earlier announced that Al-Ghad was boycotting the elections, although some of its top members ran, whether as independents or by announcing their affiliation to the party.
In a statement issued Monday, Nour urged political movements participating in the National Association for Change (founded by former IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei) to reconsider an earlier suggestion to form the National Legislative Commission, or “The Alternative Parliament”.
“After the political scandal that Egypt witnessed of the most violent, security-controlled elections process, Al-Ghad Party rejects this election process and all of its consequences,” said Nour. “The party calls on the Egyptian people to delegitimize this parliament.”
