Head of the Omar Effendi workers syndicate Mohamed Gobaily announced that the Tax Authority had seized control of the department store’s bank accounts in order to collect some LE 98 million in unpaid taxes, due since 2007 when the store was privatized, reported Al-Masry Al-Youm
“That’s why we didn’t receive our October salaries,” he said, threatening strikes if workers were not paid, reported the independent daily.
“The Saudi owner has not paid rent for stores and warehouses for four months,” he added. “Given these problems, it seems the owner will not be able to sell the store as he had hoped.
