CAIRO: Egyptian rescue workers have pulled 26 corpses from the rubble of a six-storey textile factory that collapsed during a storm in the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria, a police official said on Wednesday.

Initially, 15 people were said to have died.

Rescue workers have called off the search, believing there are no survivors or bodies left in the rubble, he said.

The factory collapsed on Sunday during strong rains and sandstorms that battered Egypt over the weekend, killing another estimated 15 people elsewhere in the country.
