Egypt mulls importing electricity from Ethiopia

The Ministry of Electricity has approved a World Bank request to continue a feasibility study of a project that aims to link Egypt and Sudan’s national electricity grids with that of Ethiopia, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported, citing a ministry official.

In its daily reprot, Beltone Financial noted that the study of the multi-billion dollar project is expected to be finalized in 2011, and will allow the importation of 3,000 MW of electricity from Ethiopia of which 2,000 MW will be designated for Egypt and the balance to Sudan.

The project will be financed by the World Bank, Beltone said.
