CAIRO: Tunisia’s foreign minister will brief Arab leaders meeting in Egypt this week on the upheaval surrounding the Tunisian president’s ouster.

Kamal Merjan will attend the Arab Economic Summit in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Shiekh on Wednesday.

Arab League Deputy Secretary-General Ahmed Ben Heli says Merjan will update the leaders on the events unfolding in the North African nation.

Weeks of protests over corruption and political repression forced the president to flee Friday to Saudi Arabia, and Tunisian authorities were still struggling to restore order on Sunday.

The leaders meeting in Egypt will also hear from Sudan’s president, Omar Al-Bashir, after a weeklong southern independence referendum that most believe will split his country.
