CAIRO: Pope Shenouda urged Copts in his weekly sermon on Wednesday in Abbaseya Cathedral to exercise restraint until tension resulting from protests has subsided.
In his sermon, the Pope referred to the state of anxiety that Egyptians are experiencing because of the protests, emphasizing that wisdom is necessary to overcome these hard times.
“You have to exercise constraint until this ordeal passes,” said Pope Shenouda, addressing almost 5000 Copts attending the sermon.
The Pope also said that suicide and self-immolation are “rejected by religion because it is the killing of a soul which is God’s gift, and a person cannot end his life because of pressure or problems.
“Whoever commits suicide is a killer even if he kills himself, because he does not own his soul, it is owned by God.”
