LONDON: Britain warned Egypt on Monday that repression of anti-government protests would "end badly" but stopped short of calling for President Hosni Mubarak to stand aside.

"It’s very important that if it’s (US) President Obama or whether it’s me, we’re not saying who should run this country or that country," British Prime Minister David Cameron told BBC TV.

"It’s sensible to say that you do have a choice here, this repression, if you opt for that, that will end badly for Egypt, badly for the world. It’s the wrong choice to make," he added.

Cameron echoed US calls for an orderly transition to a more democratic system.

Six days of unrest in Egypt has killed more than 100 people but the two sides have reached a stalemate. Protesters refuse to go, while the army is not moving them.
