CAIRO: The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) said that the continuous arrest of its members and the media campaign against the group will have implications on the group’s dialogue with the regime.
“The continuous arrest campaigns targeting a large number of MB members by thugs and security personnel and handing them to military police where they are maltreated, as well as, the fierce media campaign against the group makes us question the credibility of the regime in effecting change,” the group said in a statement late on Monday.
“We participated in the dialogue to convey the people’s fair demands on condition that the peaceful protests aren’t hindered until the demands are met. We are continuously evaluating the situation to determine our stance from the dialogue,” it added.
The banned group said that the demands included in the statement issued after a meeting with Vice President Omar Suleiman weren’t agreed upon.
“The statement issued after our meeting with Suleiman wasn’t approved by us. We didn’t sign it and unfortunately our demands weren’t included in it,” the group said.
The Brotherhood said that the statement included only “partial reforms” that don’t meet the demands of the people and many are yet to see the light. The group reiterated that their most important demand is for President Hosni Mubarak to step down.
