CAIRO: Egypt’s main internet service providers will refund customers for the interruption in web access two weeks ago during early days of the country’s uprising, the state news agency said on Sunday.

Access to the internet was cut off from Jan. 28 until Feb. 2 in an effort to quash the pro-democracy protest movement which eventually forced president Hosni Mubarak to resign on Friday.

Vodafone, Etisalat, Telecom Egypt’s TE Data, and Mobinil’s LinkDotNet would grant customers who suffered from the interruption a free half-month of service, the news agency MENA said.
