CAIRO: More than 250 workers at a gold mine operated by Centamin Egypt began a sit-in to demand better pay and a switch from Australian to Egyptian ownership, Egypt’s state news agency MENA reported on Friday.
The workers at the Sukari mine threatened to go on hunger strike if their demands were not met, MENA said.
"The protesters demanded the departure of the Australian company to let an Egyptian company take over the administration of the project and the protesters refused to go back to work," it said.
