CAIRO: A Union of People’s Committees was created comprising some of the neighborhood watch groups that were formed to protect the streets during the absence of police late last month.
The union is calling for the revolution’s demands to be fully met.
The union held its first meeting on Sunday inside the Afaq Socialist Center that is hosting the initiative, where representatives from different local areas like Boulaq Abo El-Ela, Dar El-Salam, Boulaq El-Dakrour, Deweiqa, Gammaleya, Ard El-Lewa and other areas were present.
Participants were set to take part in the protest planned for Tuesday in Tahrir Square to defend what they called “public demands of honored citizens.”
They issued a statement supporting the general political demands of the revolution and also called for eradicating poverty and corruption and improving living standards.
