CAIRO: Newly appointed Minister of Health, Ahmed Sameh Farid, has responded to the demands made during a strike by workers of the ambulance facility last week.

In a ministry statement, Farid said workers will receive a bonus of 225 percent, following decree 292 for 2011, which will also include ambulance drivers.

Farid said that their objective during the upcoming period is to “work on developing the skills of the staff.”

Following the demonstration, Farid met with top officials at the Egyptian Ambulance Authority and explained that there will be a training program which will qualify workers before they start working under the authority.

The training program will be for paramedics, nurses, emergency medical services workers and those who want to work in ambulances.

Farid also discussed with officials ways to develop ambulance facilities to provide citizens “outstanding and free” paramedics without discrimination, noting that this is the foundation of the current government.

He also said that the ministry is currently working on the procedures with the Ministry of Finance and the Central Agency for Management and Organization in order to permanently hire all temporary employees at the authority.

A minimum wage will be set for young doctors, Farid said, as the ministry needs them the most at these times.
