VIENNA: The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is offering to help Egypt and Tunisia build strong democratic institutions and civil societies.
OSCE chairman Audronius Azubalis, who is also Lithuania’s foreign minister, said Thursday such assistance could include sharing experience in conducting free and fair elections and protecting the rights of religious minorities.
Both Tunisia and Egypt recently saw the dramatic ouster of their longtime autocratic rulers. The Vienna-based OSCE is a 56-nation group that specializes in a range of issues, including democratization and human rights.
