CAIRO: Armed robbers raided two antiquities warehouses near Egypt’s Great Pyramids at dawn on Tuesday and tied up a number of security staff, the state antiquities minister said.
They bound six guards and a policeman at the warehouses south of the Giza Plateau where the pyramids are located, and sealed their mouths with tape, Zahi Hawass was quoted as saying by the state news agency MENA.
An inventory will be carried out immediately, added Ali El-Asfar, director general of the pyramids antiquities department.
There was no immediate information on the pieces kept in the warehouses or their value.
