UNITED NATIONS: Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is heading to the Mideast to attend meetings on Libya in Qatar and Egypt and will then travel to the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Ukraine and Russia.

The stop in the Ukraine will include a visit to the Chernobyl nuclear plant.

UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq said the secretary-general will participate in the first meeting of the Contact Group on Libya Wednesday in Doha, Qatar, which will bring Arab and Western leaders together to chart the way forward in Libya.

Ban then will chair a meeting of concerned international and regional organizations on Libya at the Arab League’s headquarters in Cairo on Thursday, he said.

He will head to Eastern Europe and Russia after that.
