CAIRO: Prosecutor General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud appointed Thursday judges to interrogate former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafik and other officials on complaints of squandering public funds filed against them.

The prosecution issued a statement on its official Facebook page confirming that judges will be appointed instead of prosecutors to interrogate those involved in the infamous “Battle of the Camel,” of Feb. 2 in which Tahrir Square protesters were attacked.

They will also investigate corruption allegations against former chief editor of Al-Ahram newspaper Ibrahim Nafie and former agriculture minister Amin Abaza.

The appointed judges will also look into the storming of state security buildings and the shredding of its official documents in addition to complaints filed by the freedoms committee of the Journalists’ Syndicate against torture incidents.
