CAIRO: Egypt’s Cabinet sacked on Wednesday the head of the Forensic Examinations Authority, El-Sebaei Ahmed El-Sebaei, who is under investigation for corruption allegations.

The Cabinet confirmed on its official Facebook page that Dr. Ehsan Kamil Georgy will replace El-Sebaei, who will be investigated by a committee headed by the Minister of Justice

“Prime Minister Essam Sharaf assigned Minister of Justice Abdel-Aziz El-Guindy to form a judicial committee to question El- Sebaei based on the documents that were presented on the talk show ONTV regarding this issue,” Ahmed El-Samman, Cabinet spokesman, told independent satellite channel ONTV Tuesday evening.

ONTV talk show host Yosri Fouda discussed in three episodes corruption inside the forensic authority, especially allegations related to the Khalid Saeid case and the autopsies conducted on those killed during the 18-day uprising that toppled president Hosni Mubarak.

Whistleblower Farid Hashish, an investigator in the authority who revealed documents charting El-Sebaei’s alleged corruption, recounted in Tuesday’s episode his illegal detention and torture inside the Sayyeda Zeinab police station where he submitted the documents proving El-Sebaei’s corruption.

“The committee will listen to the records of the three episodes and will listen to the testimony of Hashish, and all violations committed against him inside the police station will be subject of investigation,” El-Samman added.

El-Samman said on Tuesday night that El-Sebaei was still in his position, but said he would have no authority for the duration of the investigation which can take a few days.

El-Sebaei filed a complaint against Hashish accusing him of libel after the latter appeared on TV with documents about El-Sebaei.
