BRUSSELS: The European Union’s energy chief has signed an agreement with Iraq to work together on developing Iraqi energy resources, including gas exports to Europe, the EU’s executive said on Friday.
"Iraq commits to supplying gas over the long term to the European Union, through the Southern Corridor, while the European Commission provides access to its market for them," the Commission said in a statement.
EU energy commissioner Guenther Oettinger added: "As gas imports will increase in future, we need new supplier countries and Iraq is naturally amongst them."
