BAGHDAD: Iraqi officials say a roadside bomb planted outside a suburban liquor shop west of Baghdad has killed a soldier and a firefighter and wounded 10 others.

The blast came as security forces rushed to the site of an earlier explosion early Sunday outside the shuttered store in the Sunni-dominated Abu Ghraib area on the capital’s western outskirts.

Police officials say the second bomb instantly killed one soldier and the firefighter died later at a hospital. They say five soldiers and five firefighters also were wounded.

A hospital medic confirmed the casualties. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information.

Violence has dropped dramatically across Iraq, but deadly attacks still occur daily.
