CAIRO: Egypt captain Ahmed Hassan says he has been offered the position of the national team’s football director prior to the South Africa game.
Egypt failed to reach the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time following a 0-0 draw by Bafana Bafana, after which manager Hassan Shehata stepped down.
“Before the South Africa game, officials from the FA, along with coach Shehata, offered me the football director post, but I refused because I want to keep on playing,” Hassan told FilGoal.com.
“I want to carry on winning titles with Ahli although I am yet to talk with the club over a new contract.”
Hassan, 36, runs out of contract with Ahli by the end of the season as he announced that he will negotiate a new deal in the summer.
The veteran midfielder won two Egyptian Premier League titles and the 2009 CAF Champions League with Ahli since joining from Anderlecht in 2008.
