EL-ARISH: An Egyptian official says police have seized a large weapons cache in a coastal city near the Gaza Strip and have arrested three Palestinians and one Egyptian suspect.

Abdel-Wahab Mabrouk, the governor of North Sinai province, says the four were part of a ring that smuggles weapons to and from the Hamas-run Gaza.

He says the arms were found on Wednesday in an apartment in the city of El-Arish. The cache included automatic weapons, rifles, night vision equipment and ammunition.

Mabrouk says the Palestinians are from the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis and entered Egypt through smuggling tunnels under the border. He says police also confiscated a small amount of heroin and US and Israeli money.
