ISMAILIA: An Egyptian man was killed on Sunday when police and soldiers traded fire with armed men who attacked a police station in the port of Ismailia to free a prisoner, security officials said.
They said at least 50 people attacked the police station with the aim of freeing a man who had been detained on suspicion of theft.
They said soldiers shot at the crowd after they were first fired upon, and that one man was killed and four people were wounded.
Police stations in Cairo and elsewhere across Egypt have been attacked over the past few months by crowds seeking to release prisoners.
Dozens of stations were torched during the 18-day revolt that ousted president Hosni Mubarak in February, leaving the military in power.
