CAIRO: The government named 11 new governors and appointed three new governor deputies on Thursday. One governor was moved.

Following mass protests across the country last month, Prime Minister Essam Sharaf promised changes in the governors to be announced by the end of July as part of a package of changes, including a cabinet reshuffle, aimed to placate protesters camped in Tahrir Square and other squares in different governorates demanding faster reforms.

According to the official news agency, MENA, the new appointed governors are: Ahmed Aly Ahmed for Fayoum; Ambassador Ezzat Ahmed Saad for Luxor; Chancellor Maher Mohamed Beibars for Beni Suef; General Adel Labib for Qena; General Salah El-Maadawy for Daqahliya; Dr Osama El Fouly for Alexandria; General Sayed El-Boray for Assiut; Engineer Mohamed Mokhtar El-Mahlawy for El-Beheira; General Serag El-Din Rouby for Minya; General Tarek Mahdy for El-Wadi El-Gedid; and General Azazi Ali Azazi for Sharqeya.

Chancellor Abdel-Qader Abdulla was moved from Sharqeya to Gharbeya.

Samir Morqos was named Cairo governor deputy for the northern district and Mohamed Abdel-Halim El-Mehi for the eastern one. General Ehab Farouq El-Kharbotly was named deputy Alexandria governor.
