CAIRO: In his annual speech to mark Eid El-Fitr, Egypt’s Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa said that this year stands out more than any other since “we have broken all the barriers of the past.”
Addressing the Muslim world, Gomaa said that we must not forget the lessons learned in the holy month of Ramadan such as hard work, charity and unity, all in an in effort to please God.
He directed a special message to all Egyptians, urging them to recognize their role in protecting Egypt and their responsibilities at this “crucial moment in Egypt’s history,” adding that we must go back to resuming our international role.
Gomaa also noted that importance of focusing on and contributing to building Egypt, specifically emphasizing the importance of volunteer work.
“[Volunteer work] will pave the way to the development of the country’s economy, human capital and society,” he said, adding that it will also bring about a renaissance in ideas, culture and science.
“We have to work on internal security and eradicating crime, poverty and corruption,” he said.
