CAIRO: Playing its first match since the fall of Moammar Qaddafi, Libya’s national team beat Mozambique 1-0 Saturday in an African Cup of Nations qualifying match.
The Libyan players wore a new white jersey with the three colors of the pre-Qaddafi flag used by the rebels.
Rabie El-Lafi scored in the 30th minute with a shot into the far right corner of the net after a cross from the right from teammate Mohamed Al-Mughrabi.
Most of Libya’s players were from Benghazi, which fell to the rebels early in the uprising that began in February.
The win gives Libya six points and second place in its group after Zambia.
The game was moved to Egypt because of the fighting in Libya, and was played without an audience in the stadium because of security concerns.
