CAIRO: Workers at Mahalla Spinning Company canceled Thursday a planned Sep. 10 strike after negotiations with the manpower minister succeeded.
Workers agreed that monthly meal incentives will be increased to LE 210 from LE 120; while monthly incentives will be raised to 200 percent for workers, 125 percent for assistants, 100 percent for shift supervisors and 25 percent for general managers.
They also agreed to postpone discussion over profit distribution until the general assembly of the Holding Company for Cotton, Spinning and Textiles meets.
Workers demands included more investments in the company, a minimum wage of LE 1,200 or 200 percent monthly incentive, and organizing internal elections on the scheduled date.
Meanwhile, workers at Kafr Al-Dawar, Seta, Al-Sayouf and Industrial Silk companies threatened to strike if they don’t get the same privileges as Mahalla workers.
