CAIRO: HSBC said that despite few injuries, all customers and staff are currently safe, following an attack on its New Cairo branch on Monday.
“HSBC branch in Al Tagammu [Fifth Settlement] was attacked yesterday, Monday, Jan. 30, 2012 by armed robbers. Two customers and one of our branch staff were slightly injured,” the bank said in a statement Tuesday. “While no-one was hit by any bullets, some minor injuries were incurred through collateral damage.”
However, the bank underlined that while all customers and staff are safe and in good health, the Fifth Settlement branch remained closed on Tuesday.
The unknown attackers took about LE 1 million from the branch. The bank stated that they are currently in full cooperation with the investigating authorities.
“No customer will be inconvenienced by this incident,” the statement read. “HSBC is a global bank that operates the highest levels of security. The existing high security precautions at all HSBC branches and premises are maintained, and we are open for business as usual in Egypt."
