Prosecution detains 25 protesters for 15 days pending investigation

CAIRO: Cairo’s Zenhom prosecution Monday remanded 25 protesters in custody for 15 days pending investigations into their involvement in the clashes with police forces in front of the Ministry of Interior that left eight dead, according to the latest reports by the Ministry of Health.

A total of 81 protesters were arrested by security forces since the clashes erupted Thursday night. Fifteen are held in Abdeen, 33 in Zenhom, eight in El-Waily and 25 in North Cairo, according to rights lawyer Ragia Omran.

The 25 who were ordered detained are part of a group of 33 being interrogated by the Zenhom prosecution. But no decision was issued regarding the remaining eight by press time.
