CAIRO: Ministry of Interior said Saturday police arrested the four assailants who attacked presidential hopeful Abdel Moniem AbolFotoh last Thursday.
According to potential candidate’s campaign, he was recovering at home and receiving visitors.
The ministry said that one of the four assailants is an inmate who escaped prison while the second was involved in drug trafficking and theft. Police found Abol Fotoh’s car, which was stolen by the attackers, in addition to 12 other vehicles reported stolen.
Abol Fotoh was briefly hospitalized after three masked men attacked hism and his driver late Thursday on the Ring Road.
The driver is also recovering, according to a statement released by Abol Fotoh’s campaign.
“Abol Fotoh asserted that the attack against him will not change his activity or hinder his determination to be up to the promise he made to the people to serve this country to the last day of his life,” the statement said.
