BERLIN: Mainz striker Mohamed Zidan has been fined €6,000 ($7,900) for joining fans in a chant containing a mild expletive against local Bundesliga rival Kaiserslautern.
The German Football Federation imposed the fine Wednesday for Zidan’s “unsporting behavior” after Mainz’s 4-0 derby win over Kaiserslautern on Feb. 28, when the Egypt international joined the home fans in the terraces to sing the song.
Zidan has scored in five consecutive games for Mainz since his winter transfer from Borussia Dortmund.
He scored against his former side last Saturday, becoming the first player to score in five consecutive games this season, and the first to score in his opening five games for a new club since Stuttgart striker Fredi Bobic in 1994.
