LIBREVILLE: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Friday said that it would likely contribute observers to the UN mission in Syria.
“I think OIC countries will contribute to the observer (mission) to be sent by the UN,” OIC head Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said in Libreville during a meeting of information ministers of the 57-member pan-Muslim body.
The United Nations sent an advance team of military observers to war-torn Syria this week to monitor a ceasefire plan brokered by UN and Arab League envoy Kofi Annan, which calls for more observers to eventually be deployed.
