Egypt’s Prime Minister Hesham Qandil announced the full list of cabinet members today, bringing an end to speculations regarding who would be part of the first government-elect since the fall of Hosny Mubarak in 2011. The new cabinet is expected to be sworn in today.
In addition to the partial list of ministers confirmed on Wednesday are several additions:
Minister of Environment: Mostafa Hussein Kamel (retaining his position )
Minister of Justice: Ahmed Mekky (independent judiciary movement, former deputy Cassation Court chairman)
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation: Ashraf Al-Arady (according to BBC)
Minister of Information: Salah Abdel-Maqsoud (Islamist journalist)
Minister of Culture: Mohamed Saber Arab (from Ganzouri cabinet)
Minister of Military Production: AlySabry (from Ganzouri cabinet)
Minister of Trade and Industry: Hatem Saleh (engineer)
Minister of Education: Ibrahim Ghonim (vice president of Suez university)
Minister of Manpower: khaled al-azhari (FJP)
Minister of Civil Aviation: AlaaAshour (former head of Egypt Air)
The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs has still not been filled due to a failure to agree on a single candidate who could coordinate amongst different policy makers.
The updated list confirms Mostafa Hussein as the Minister of Environment, while the Minister of Justice is Ahmed Mekky, a former deputy Cassation Court chairman.
President Mohamed Morsy has also appointed the former Prime Minister Kamal El-Ganzoury as his personal advisor, according to state TV. Nine Ministers are from the previous El-Ganzoury cabinet, and five are from the Freedom and Justic Party and Major General Ahmed Jamal al-Din, was asked to be interior minister.
The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) will select the defence minister, which is which is widely expected to be head of SCAF Mohammed Tantawi.
In all there are 35 posts appointed.
