Prayers were held for the dead at a military funeral at Al-Rashdan Mosque in Nasr City. Afterwards, military police struggled to carry the coffins outside the mosque through crowds of people and mourning families. They eventually proceeded to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where the fallen were honoured in a military ceremony.
Newly appointed Prime Minister Hesham Qandil was in attendance at the funeral. According to state-run al-Ahram portal, he left after the prayers under intense security while some in the crowds hurled shoes at him yelling “you killed them you dogs.”
Other protesters carried placards which read: “Our condolences to the Egyptians, but not to the dogs of the Muslim Brotherhood and their President.”
Feild Marshall Mohamed Hussein Tantawi also attended the ceremony. President Morsy was absent.
