The Armed Forces has completed 90 percent of a social residential project for low-income citizens. The project includes 6,000 residential units and is located in Helwan. The project is expected to be completed by the beginning of 2013.

Director of the Residential Department of Cairo, General Hany Shenishan, said the engineering services of the Armed Forces and the Military Engineers Department will soon finish construction of the project, which is spread over 92 acres.

Shenishan said the project includes 6,000 units, each 90 metres square. In addition, there is a 1,500 square metre shopping mall, full-service medical centre, mosque and 1,150 square metre convention centre.

Six small mosques, six day care centres, a primary school, sports yard, and four buildings housing retail units will complete the project.

Ninety percent of the project and 80 percent of the utilities have been completed. Buildings will occupy 22 percent of the allocated area with green areas, streets, and parking lots filling the remainder of the project’s space. The project is being built by 56 contractors and four utility companies.
