The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) released yesterday the latest figures on tourism during July showing an 8.3 percent increase in the number of tourists from around the globe from the same month last year.
According to the latest CAPMAS tourism figures, up to one million tourists visited Egypt during July, compared to 936,000 in July 2011, demonstrating a slim improvement in Egypt’s tourism sector. However experts say tourism rates have not yet reached its previous 2010 levels, when tourism was prospering.
Tourists coming from western Europe represented the bulk of tourists visiting Egypt in July, while eastern Europe came in the second place. European tourists spent 11.3 million nights during July, a 7.8 percent increase on July last year but well shy of the 12.8 million nights spent in July 2010.
Arab tourist numbers were steady, with 218,000 visitors in July showing a slight decline of 0.4 percent over the same period last year. However the number of nights they spent declined by 7.6 percent to 3.3 million nights. However July 2010 figures show 306,000 Arab visitors spent 3.2 million nights.
Experts attribute the slim improvement in Egypt’s tourism sector to signs of political stability an improved security situation since the 25 January 2011 uprising.
