The Chernobyl Diaries

The Chernobyl Diaries is the latest horror film featuring semi-attractive 20 something year olds from the monster fest that is Hollywood. The film’s plot uses the Chernobyl disaster of 1986 to make your average Hollywood horror plot into something more: namely even more distasteful, and employs the usual formula of a group of Americans lost in Europe and in grave danger. From the mind of the man who brought you the only-mildly-boring Paranormal Activity and all of its lesser siblings, this film should be missed unless you are stuck in Pripyat itself with nothing better to do.

The Campaign

Will Ferrel returns with The Campaign, the latest over-the-top comedy with thinly-veiled political commentary that is likely to rouse Glen Beck into a rant about the ‘liberal media’. Will Ferrel plays a politician in North Carolina (really?) who embarrasses himself only to find himself face-to-face with a rival political candidate (Zach Galifianakis) who was set up by wealthy CEOs. The Campaign will not provide any profound insight into the American political system but it has its moments: moments that can be viewed on your DVD player with a careful finger on the chapter-skip button just in case it gets too over-the-top.

ParaNorman

ParaNorman is a fresh new addition to the animation genre that takes a risk with its unusual style and plot but which pays off. The film revolves around a cursed town that comes under a zombie attack with a local boy who can talk to the dead being the only one who can save it. Norman takes on grown-ups and zombies alike in an effort to save his town and what ensues is very entertaining and will impress both kids and adults.
