The Egyptian section of the Venice Biennale of Architecture, part of the major art extravaganza that also included the Venice Film Festival, impressed audiences this year seemingly in continuity with the overall Egyptian performance at the festival itself.
Egyptian architects Gamal Amer and Tarek El Morr pioneered the project, with some of the work being done by Diab Hasan and Mansour Ahmed. Amer said the project’s idea came from movements in natural phenomena, such as the earth and the planets, as well as electrons in an atom.
The construction of the exhibition was finished in a record time; less than a week. The exhibition was set up in a way in which the stones would appear to be rotating around their axis to signify natural movements around us, complimented with verses from some of Egypt’s most iconic poets
