Three policemen were killed and another wounded after an attack by masked gunmen on a road bridge in Al-Arish on Saturday.
Dr. Sami Anwar, director of Al-Arish General Hospital said, “on Saturday afternoon the hospital received the bodies of three policemen who were shot. Their bodies were placed in the morgue.” He added, “a fourth policemen has undergone surgery to remove bullets from his body and is in a relatively stable condition.”
General Ali Azazy, deputy director of North Sinai security, said the masked men were driving a black Verna. He pointed out that an investigation into the incident has begun.
A large number of revolutionary movements and representatives of political parties have gathered outside the hospital in a show of solidarity with the police.
Said Al-Qasas, head of the Sinai Revolutionary Movement, said, “all the people of Sinai stand in complete solidarity with the police until there is retribution for the dead and the perpetrators are brought to justice.” He also demanded the minister of interior, General Ahmed Gamal, to meet with the police to discuss the security situation in North Sinai.
North Sinai has seen attacks on police, the army and incidents of kidnapping in recent months.
