Two official complaints were filed on Saturday morning against a teacher who allegedly spat on a student. The guardian of the student filed the complaints at the education department in Qurna and the directorate of education in Luxor, according to state owned news agency, Ahram Portal.
The student, only known as Mohammed, claims that the teacher, Walid Mohammed Ahmed lifted him off the ground by his neck and then let him drop on to some wooden stairs, Ahram Portal reported. Ahmed then proceeded to spit on Mohammed and beat him, leaving scratches on the student’s arms.
The guardian of the student, Mohammed Rifat Mohammed Tahir, filed the complaints in the absence of the student’s father who is working in Kuwait. The complaints say that the teacher beat Mohammed, spat on him and insulted Mohammed’s family. Another teacher intervened at this point in order to prevent any familial tensions, according to Ahram Portal.
After the teacher heard that a complaint was to be filed, Ahram Portal reported that he sent some of his colleagues to the student’s family home. They asked them not to file a complaint and they apologised to Mohammed and his family, but the apology was rejected.
This is the latest high profile incident involving a teacher and student in the Luxor governorate. A teacher received a six month suspended sentence last week for cutting a student’s hair and another teacher denied accusations that she had broken a pupils finger.
