Unidentified gunmen fired rocket-propelled grenades at a cement factory in central Sinai early on Tuesday morning.

Factory workers said masked gunmen broke into the factory grounds on Tuesday morning and attacked the buildings, causing damage. There were no casualties however.

A security official said the factory continued to operate normally. He added that there was a dispute between the factory owner and residents of the area. He speculated that the disgruntled residents were the most likely perpetrators of the attack.

The factory is owned by businessman Hassan Rateb, who also owns the Mehwar TV channel and Sinai University.

The cement factory has had to halt operations several times since the 25 January revolution due to repeated attacks.
