President Mohamed Morsy’s legal adviser withdrew from the Constituent Assembly’s Wednesday session, describing its drafting process as “tailoring” the articles to fit specific circumstances.
Mohamed Fouad Gad Allah objected mainly over articles number 182, 183, 184, 198, 199 and 200, reported state-owned news agency MENA.
Articles 182, 183 and 184 outline the basis upon which the Supreme Constitutional Court functions. Gad Allah reportedly disapproved of the way they were drafted and abstained from voting on them, adding that their drafting is “unfit” since they were “tailored” to fit specific criteria.
Gad Allah also abstained from voting on articles 198, 199 and 200, telling MENA that they were “finalised abruptly”.
Article 198 details the role of the “National Defense Council”, making the president its head and giving him the right to invite people to attend the council’s sessions. Article 199 deals with the military judiciary, stating that it is tasked with all offences related to the armed forces. It also states that civilians cannot be tried by a military tribunal except in crimes which “harm” the armed forces. Article 200 outlines the duties and responsibilities of the police.
The Constituent Assembly is expected to be completely done with the drafting process today.
