“Offensive” statements about judges made by the president’s legal adviser have landed him in trouble with the State Council Judges Club, which is considering revoking his membership.
At a meeting to discuss the recent constitutional declaration on Friday, members of the club’s executive board challenged statements made by Mohamed Fouad Gadalla about the judiciary.
Mohamed Hassan, deputy head of the State Council Judges Club, said: “Many members questioned Gadalla’s offensive comments on judges in which he claimed that the judiciary needs to purged.”
The remarks in question were made to the media in defence of President Mohamed Morsy’s recent constitutional declaration.
“The details of his comments were not stated during the meeting but all members have issued a recommendation to either cancel or freeze his membership to the club,” Hassan said.
In the coming four days the club’s board will now investigate whether Gadalla’s comments warrant revoking his club membership.
Friday’s meeting also denounced remarks made by the “Judges for Egypt” movement, which has announced its support for Morsy’s declaration.
The board of the club last week announced that the constitutional declaration “has no value to the established rules of jurisprudence,” state-run MENA reported.
The State Council, which includes all administrative courts, last week announced its opposition to the declaration, but unlike other courts decided against strike action.
When contacts by Daily News Egypt, Gadalla declined to comment on the issue.
