Photojournalist Mohamed Sabry’s sentencing hearing was scheduled for 5 February on Tuesday in Al-Galaa Military Court in Ismailia.
Sabry was arrested in Rafah on 4 January while reporting on the killing of soldiers in the area and was charged with being in a military zone and photographing a military facility.
Egypt’s new constitution permits the military trial of civilians if “they commit charges deemed harmful to the armed forces.”
Sabry is a member of the No to Military Trials for Civilians movement, which aimed to completely strike military trials from the constitution.
