The funerals of Mohamed El-Gendy and Amr Abdel Reheem Sa’ad took place at Omar Makram mosque in Tahrir Square on Monday. El-Gendy was kidnapped with claims of torture and died four days after he was found. Sa’ad was shot near the presidential palace during the latest clashes.
Nearly one thousand attended the funeral of the two men who died on Sunday. Mourners were inconsolable as the bodies arrived at the mosque.
In attendance were political figures such as former presidential candidates Hamdeen Sabahy and Khaled Ali.
Following the funeral the bodies were driven slowly around Tahrir Square and were followed by mourners who chanted against President Mohamed Morsi and called for the fall of the regime.
The funeral march then went to the Corniche El-Nile. The cars containing the bodies sped off after the mourners aimed their frustration at police stationed near the American embassy.
