The TV channel Al Qahera Wal Nas recently obtained the rights to broadcast Egyptian Premiere League football matches beginning in its sixth week, after contracts signed Sunday between the network and officials from the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).
Tharwat Suweilem, executive director of the EFA stated that Amr Afifi, the TV channel’s sports programming director, purchased the rights to air the league for EGP 2.3m, and will begin doing so next week when the league begins its sixth week. A number of other satellite TV channels inquired about the price of purchasing the rights to air the Premiere League in preparation for the league’s upcoming second round.
Suweilem confirmed that he had received calls from a number of networks seeking to purchase the rights to air the League’s second round, saying that the issue would need to be brought before the league’s board of directors, headed by Gamal Alam, before determining a price.
